Police search 12 locations in Kashmir over threats to journalists

Srinagar, Nov 19: Police on Saturday said that massive searches were being conducted in various parts of Kashmir as a probe gets underway in online threats to journalists’ case.

“Massive searches in connection with investigation of case related to recent threat to journalists started by Police at 10 locations in Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam. Details shall be followed (sic),” said a police spokesman on Twitter.

In the wake of recent threat issued to journalists by a proscribed terror outfit, Srinagar Police conducted simultaneous searches at various locations across Kashmir.

A case vide FIR No. 82/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered in PS Sherghari against terror handlers, active terrorists & terrorist associates of proscribed terror outfit LeT & its offshoot TRF for online publication & dissemination of direct threat letters to Journalists & reporters based in Kashmir.

During the course of investigation, each team comprised of 4-5 members and led by an Inspector/SI rank officer monitored by the SDPO concerned. The raids were supervised by SP South City Srinagar Shri Lakshya Sharma-IPS and launched simultaneous searches at 12 locations across the valley including the houses of fugitives like Sajjad Gul, Mukhtar Baba, active terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF) and other suspects in Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam Districts.

The premises which were raided and searched belong to Mohd Rafi at Nigeen, Khalid Gul at Anantnag, Rashid Maqbool at Lal Bazar, Momin Gulzar at Eidgah, Basit Dar at Kulgam, Sajjad Kralyari at Rainawari, Gowhar Geelani at Soura, Qazi Shibli at Anantnag, Sajjad Sheikh @Sajjad Gul at HMT Srinagar, Mukhtar Baba at Nowgam, Waseem Khalid at Rawalpora and Adil Pandit at Khanyar Srinagar.

During search, all the legal formalities were followed professionally and consequent to the searches some suspects have been brought for examination and questioning. The seized materials by the respective search teams include mobiles, laptops, memory cards, pen-drives & other digital devices, documents, bank papers, rubber stamps, passports, other suspect papers, cash, Saudi currency etc.

The investigation in the instant case is in full swing and general public is requested to bring any information that is relevant to this case in the notice of Srinagar Police.
