Police choking space for dissent in J&K: JRL

The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Sunday slammed what they called the “policy of choking very little space for peaceful political resistance in Kashmir.”

In a statement, the JRL said “this suppression has now touched new heights as the police are even trying to put a ban on funeral prayers and mournings too”.

The JRL said Prime Minister NarendraModi’s appreciation for Kashmir police “is actually (meant) for these kinds of oppressive measures and choking of peaceful political space because by these acts the police have been pushing young Kashmiri boys to the wall and hence leaving no space for them but to sacrifice their lives (sic)”.

“Choking political space for young boys and not letting them express their anger and thoughts through peaceful means, torturing and humiliating them in political resistance, are forcing them to tread the path of ultimate sacrifice,” the statement read, adding that “use of brute force and policy to eliminate every voice of dissent is aimed at forcing Kashmiris into submission but Indian aggressors fail to understand that repression and systematic genocide will never succeed in doing so in a nation that has resolved to fight for its right to self-determination”.
