Police register FIR in alleged beating of magistrate by forces

The police on Thursday registered an FIR into the alleged beating of a magistrate and his four other employees on election duty by the security forces in Anantnag district a day earlier.

Sub-divisional magistrate Doroo, Ghulam Rasool Wani, Tuesdayalleged that soldiers thrashed him, his driver and three other officials, andalso damaged his official vehicle near Dalwach-Ujroo area of Qazigund along theSrinagar-Jammu national highway in Anantnag district, when they were on way toattend an election-related meeting with the deputy commissioner Anantnag.

   

“They suddenly went berserk and even seized the pollmaterial from us,” he said and added that his driver’s cellphone was alsosnatched and broken into pieces when he tried to call the DC.

SP Kulgam Gurandar Pal Singh told Greater Kashmir that acase has been registered into the “altercation between the SDM and soldiers”.

In his complaint, the SDM has accused the soldiers of aimingguns at him and his employees, threatening to kill them while grabbing him byhis collar, dragging him, hurling abuses and beating him up.

The complaint said that only after the deputy commissionerAnantnag reached the spot were they set free.

The army has said that it was ascertaining the facts of theincident.

Meanwhile, both NC and PDP Wednesday held a protest inAnantnag against the alleged beating of the officials.
