Police solve Tral murder case

Police Thursday claimed to have cracked the murder case of a woman from Chankitar hamlet of Tral by arresting her husband who as per police was involved in the case.Police said the lady was killed during a family tussle. 

Addressing a press conference here, SP Awantipora Mohammad Zahid Malik said that a complaint was received in police station Tral on 21st March last year from father of victim namely Mohammad Rafiq Beigh from Panzoo village of Tral. 

   

“He stated that his daughter Shugufta Banoo wife of Sajad Ahmad Lone, a resident of Chan-Kitar village of Tral was attacked/ assaulted by her husband, injuring her seriously. She was rushed to sub-district hospital Tral, for treatment, wherefrom she was critically referred to Srinagar hospital but died on the way. Accordingly a case under section 174 CRPC was registered and investigation was set into motion,” Malik said. 

He said during the inquest proceedings, the dead body was exhumed by a team of doctors at sub-district hospital Tral. On 25th of October last year it came to fore that there were family disputes between Shugufta and her in-laws. The medical report stated that the victim did not suffer natural death but died due to fatal brain injuries caused by some blunt object.

The SP further said that the inquest proceedings were converted into formal FIR on 28th October last year and were registered as FIR No. 84/2017 U/S. 302 RPC and the investigation in the case began. During the course of investigation, statements of witnesses were recorded in writing under Section 161 and 164A CRPC.

“After clear investigations, the accused was arrested on 3 January 2018 and is presently in our custody. The investigation in the case is in progress,” he added.

Locals including the father of victim thanked the police for solving the case.
