It has been six years since the Fire and Emergency department issued an advertisement notice for various posts, but the select list is yet to be issued.
According to the aspirants, the department conducted the physical test and written examination but the select list has not been issued.
The aggrieved aspirants told Grater Kashmir that in 2013 an advertisement notice was issued for various posts of drivers, fireman, foreman, junior assistant, etc.
"The department after conducting the physical test and the written examination in 2013 and 2014 respectively, cancelled the notice without informing us," the aspirants said.
"In 2018, again the process of selection was started against the same advertisement notice for the same candidates who had applied in 2013. The physical test and the written examination were conducted in September last year," they said.
The aspirants said that despite going through the whole process twice, "we are still awaiting the final select list."
The aspirants said that against 877 posts advertised, around 12,000 candidates applied, of which around 7,000 were shortlisted for written examination.
The aspirants said many among the candidates are at the verge of crossing the upper age limit.
When contacted, deputy director, Fire and Emergency department, Bashir Ahmed Shah said: "Few aspirants who failed in the exams raised some objections citing mass copying, which was not true. They filed a writ petition in the court. But we will sort out the issue and the list will be issued as soon as possible," Shah said.
"We are ourselves in dire need of manpower," he said.
On 28 January Greater Kashmir reported that the department has 971 posts of fireman, 174 posts of fireman drivers and 114 posts of mechanical drivers vacant, besides many high officials are holding multiple charges due to dearth of manpower.
