Prayers, processions to mark Eid-i-Milad (SAW) today

Eid-i-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) is being celebrated with full reverence in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. The day marks the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Religious processions, special prayer meetings, Seerat conferences are being organised across the state to celebrate the day. Special functions would be held in the Kashmir at various shrines and masjids.

   

The biggest congregation will be held at Hazratbal Shrine where thousands of devotees are expected to gather to offer prayers and have a glimpse of the holy relic of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

In southern Kashmir, people will be offering prayers at masjids and shrines, mainly at Jamia Masjid ReshiSahab, KhiramSirhama, Kaba Marg, Dooru and Seer Hamdan, while in north Milad procession will be taken out at various places.

The day will also mark the Milad processions across the Kashmir. Karwan-i-Islami has announced to take Milad procession from ShaheedGunj here at 10:30 am. The procession to be lead by GhulamRasoolHami is scheduled to culminate at JamiaQadriya in Shadipora, Sumbal.

Meanwhile, night long prayers were held at various shrines, masjids and DargahHazratbal. Various Masjids and shrines were decorated with lights.

 GOVERNOR GREETS PEOPLE

Governor Satya Pal Malik greeted the people of Jammu and Kashmir and hoped this auspicious occasion would be the harbinger of harmony, peace, progress and prosperity in the state.

In a message, Governor said Islam teaches us the values of brotherhood, simplicity, compassion and morality, all of which need to be followed wholeheartedly in everyday life. Governor has prayed for the well-being and happiness of the people of the State.

CS FELICITATES PEOPLE 

Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam felicitated the people of the state and expressed the hope that the auspicious occasion would be the harbinger of peace, prosperity and progress in the State. He directed all the line departments to ensure all requisite arrangements are put in place for smooth conduct of the Milad. He issued directions to the PDD and PHE to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply at all the venues where large congregations are expected to facilitate the devotees.

CHAIRMAN WAKF BOARD: ISLAM TEACHES BROTHERHOOD

Chairman J&K Wakf Board Khurshid Ahmed Ganai hoped the occasion would bring harmony, peace and prosperity in the state. He said Islam teaches us the virtues of amity and brotherhood.

FAROOQ, OMAR ABDULLAH FELICITATE PEOPLE

National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah felicitated people and said the Eid-Milad was an occasion to “dedicate ourselves to the teachings of our beloved Prophet (SAW) in letter and spirit and work tirelessly towards helping those in need”. Both leaders prayed for peace and stability in the Jammu & Kashmir.

MEHBOOBA GREETS PEOPLE

Former chief minister and president Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti greeted people and said the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) taught lessons of compassion, mercy, tolerance and brotherhood to the humanity-all of which need to be vigorously inculcated in today’s strife infested world.

MIRWAIZ EXTENDS GREETINGS

Extending greeting to the people on Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), MutahidaMajlis-e-Ulema Head and chairman Hurriyat Conference (M), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the turning point in human history as it revolutionszed human thinking, faith, civilization and culture forever, transformed the lives of the people and altered the geography of the world.

In his message, Mirwaiz said, “The message of the great and revered prophet (SAW), and his exemplary life is the guiding light for all humanity for all times to lead a peaceful and meaningful life and for the betterment of humanity.”  “Our love and devotion for the last Messenger of Allah (SAW) can best be exhibited when we follow his teachings in letter and spirit and implement them in all spheres of our lives,” he has said.  

Paying glowing tributes to Prophet (SAW), Mirwaiz said that “The best way of paying tribute to the revered prophet and defeat the designs of imperial and Zionist powers against Islam and the Muslims is to introspect into our thoughts and deeds and realize how much we have deviated from the righteous path shown by the prophet and take a pledge that we will rectify it and follow the teachings of holy Quran and Sunnah of Prophet (SAW).”
