Prominent educationist Dr Mehboob Makhdoomi has intensified his efforts to set up a private university in Jammu and Kashmir by launching a website www.ysmmet.org, statement said.
It said thatMakhdoomi in a bid to bring home global higher education practices, exposure tothe students, and to bridge industry-academia void. “His mission and visionstatements talk about setting a benchmark for quality education in South-Asiaand emphasize collaborations with the leading universities around the world,”the statement said.
It said that Dr Makhdoomi’s website has testimonials fromworld-renowned intellectuals like Prof Noam Chomsky, AMU Professor EmeritusNejatullah Siddiqui and many more.
The advisory board for this initiative, according to thestatement, includes faculty from Harvard in Boston, Prof A S Chawla (vice-chancellor-RIMT university in Punjab), Prof Siddiq Wahid (former V-C IUST), Prof Anju Bhasin (Vice-ChancellorCluster University of Jammu), Dr Khalid Shah (Director- Stem Cell Therapeutics& Imaging at Harvard Medical School), numerous other industrialists, andacademics from Kashmir University and Central Universities of the state.
The video has also been released, which features J&K students from the US, UK, Canada, Turkey, Gulf, Malaysia, Singapore, and those studying locally in J&K & other states, supporting the initiative. The idea is to have a publicly-funded varsity that would nurture talent, create global citizens and would be open to everyone from anywhere, without any discrimination.
