Irked over unscheduled power cuts, the inhabitants of Tral and adjoining areas on Saturday staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) on Saturday.
The residents said that they were facing immense problems due to "irrational and useless" power curtailment schedule.
They accused the government of turning a blind eye to their issues.
"We can understand that whole valley is facing power crisis but Tral sub-division is witnessing excessive power cuts," the protesters said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Executive Engineer Power Development Department Tral, Mohammad Maqbool Ahanger said that they were following the newly framed sub-transmission division schedule.
The additional curtailments were imposed by Awantipora and Pampore grid stations, he said.
"As we are witnessing prolonged dry spell, the power generation wing fails to generate enough power that ultimately results in the unscheduled power cuts." he added.
He further suggested that people should "avoid" illegal hooking and power theft so that necessary steps will be taken at earliest to provide relief to them.
