Protestors demand body of slain militant in Barzulla

Protests erupted in Barzulla area of the city here on Thursday after protestors demanded body of a militant, who was killed in Kupwara gunfight last month.

Protests morphed into clashes after forces prevented protestors from blocking Barzulla bridge, while responding with tear gas and pepper smoke shells. The forces action infuriated protestors who responded with throwing stones at them.

Pertinently, Army on June 30 had claimed that an unidentified militant was killed in a gunfight at Tunga Top forests in Kupwara. Later, Srinagar family from Barzulla area had claimed that the slain militant was their son Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, who had left home in 2016 for Saudi Arabia.

Since then family has been repeatedly asking authorities to hand over body to them.

Meanwhile, police chief SP Vaid said body will be handed over to the family after DNA report is received. “Samples have been taken. We are waiting for the final DNA report,” he said.
