Police on Friday arrested a Hurriyat (G) leader from Hajin area of north Kahshmir's Bandipora district, his family members said.
Muhammad Yousuf Sofi is general secretary Bandipora for Hurriyat (G).
Sofi, a resident of Brar village, was arrested while he was coming out from Jamia Masjid Hajin after offering congregational Friday prayers, they said.
Meanwhile, people carried out a protest rally in the town against the detention of Sofi and demanded his immediate release.
Eyewitnesses said that the protestors were raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
Meanwhile, residents of Ajas offered Friday congregation in Eidgah.
Later, they held a protest in Ajas Chowk amid pro-freedom slogans.
Reports said that mild clashes were held in Kaloosa and Ajar areas of the district.
