Protests erupted in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday against the death of three militants in an encounter with government forces in Awoora village of Pahalgam.

Protests erupted in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday against the death of three militants in an encounter with government forces in Awoora village of Pahalgam.

The deceased – all residents of Bijbehara – were identified as Adil Ahmad Reshi, Abid Ahmad Sheikh and Masood Ahmad Shah.

Locals said that the trio was killed after forces blasted the house in which they were trapped.

As the news of their death spread, people took to the streets despite the heavy snowfall and staged protests.

Meanwhile, all shops and other business establishments remained closed in the town to mourn the deaths.
