While private schools across Kashmir have begun the process of admission for kindergarten, the management of all the private schools have been asked to submit the details of their present fee structure to the School Fee Fixation committee (SFFC).
A circular has been issued by the administrative officer of the committee. The SFFC was constituted in 2014 with a mandate to regulate and inspect the fee structure in all private schools of Jammu and Kashmir.
As a practice, the admission process for KG classes in private schools starts in September to October and the authorities in the private educational institutions charge large sums of money as donation from parents for admission in the respective schools.
"It has come to our notice that some leading private schools are charging exorbitant admission fee and monthly tuition fee from the students which is in violation direction of the High Court and the orders passed by the government and this committee (SFFC) from time to time," reads a circular issued by the SFFC.
In October 2017, the committee through its order had approved enhancement of fee structure in some private schools by eight percent.
"But these schools are not adhering to such fee structure and have violated the other terms and conditions of the said order," reads the SFFC circular.
The private schools are always in news at the commencement of new academic session every year for resorting to illegal profiteering by charging donation from parents and selling text books, uniforms at exorbitant rates as well. Such practices become a routine in all leading private schools in the absence of lax regulations.
"Several circulars have been issued by the directorate of school education and SFFC to these schools asking them to refrain from such practices but they remain ineffective," an official said.
Meanwhile the private schools have been asked to submit their details of fee structure within a week's time "failing which it will be presumed that you (private schools) are not adhering to the fee structure approved for your schools."
The SFFC circular states that the present fee structure relates to admission fee and monthly tuition fee and other charges paid by students at the time of new admission.
