Raising voice for release of detainees our collective responsibility: Wani

Former EJAC President and civil society member, Qayoom Wani on Saturday expressed concern over the delay in releasing Kashmiri detainees lodged in different jails in and outside J&K.

Wani said families of Kashmiri detainees were in distressed condition, in absence of contact with their kin and lack of information about their wellbeing amid the COVID19 lockdown.

He said the detainees in and outside jails were under continuous fear of contracting COVID19. “A large number of these detainees are senior citizens with multiple ailments and are prone to COVID19,” Wani said.

He also safety and security of every citizen must be the priority of the government and it was high time for the government to respect the human rights by releasing the detainees on humanitarian grounds.

Wani said it was “our collective responsibility to raise voice for release of Kashmiri prisoners and to show sympathy with their families at this difficult time.”
