R&B deptt told to construct office complexes on state land only

The government has directed the roads and buildings department to ensure that new office complexes are constructed only on state land and made it clear no funds would be provided for any land acquired for such projects.

An order issued by the planning department also asked R&B department to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for tehsil-level administrative office complexes within Rs 2-crore ceiling, sub-division level complexes within Rs 3-crore and district-level complexes within the ceiling of Rs 5 crore.

The order also asked the R&B department to explore the possibility of building new complexes within the existing complexes and “dovetailing proposed structures with the existing structures”.

“To harmonise the varied cost estimates, different types of designs are being prepared to ensure functionality with economy,” the order reads.

It said the R&B department should prepare standard-type designs for administrative complexes at tehsil, sub-division and district level based on the actual requirement.

A senior official of the planning department said the order has been issued after it was noticed that construction cost of several office complexes had gone up.

“It unnecessarily burdens the state exchequer and creates liabilities. Now, R&B should follow the prescribed budget allocation of funds for constructions,” he said.
