RDD takes up 1,952 works under MGNREGA in Kashmir

Amid the COVID19 pandemic, Rural Development Department (RDD) Kashmir has undertaken various initiatives in co-ordination with members of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and district administrations.

The department has conducted number of cleanliness,sanitization and fumigation drives in various congested residential areasincluding the red zones.

   

Besides, awareness management committees at block and Panchayatlevels were constituted to prevent spread of COVID19 pandemic.

These committees haveactively participated in providing succor to the needy people includinglabourers from various states and destitute in the hour of need.

Pursuant to the directions of Union government, the J&Kresumed MGNREGA activities and in this regard the government emphasized theneed for adherence to social distancing, use of masks and personal sanitationat the work sites.

Accordingly, variousactivities under MGNREGA have been resumed, and besides completion of theongoing works, various new works including Irrigation related, land developmentand PMAY units have been taken up for execution.

Further, the MGNREGAworkers have been advised to adhere to the precautionary measures includingsocial distancing, use of masks, frequent washing of hands owning to currentCOVID19 pandemic.

As on date, besides various ongoing works, 1952 new workshave been taken up under MGNREGA wherein 18,661 Job card holders have beenengaged and about 26,293 person days have been generated.
