Five years after the fire and emergency department of the state put out a notification for various posts in 2013, the aspirants are still waiting for results of exam conducted in 2014.
A delegation of aspirants from various districts told Greater Kashmir that the department put out a notification for various posts of drivers, fire fighters and other posts in 2013. After passing physical examination, about 14000 candidates were selected for written test which was conducted in 2014. But since then the aspirants are waiting for the results to be declared.
"The department is mulling to repeat the whole process again from the beginning and we will suffer as many among us who were selected for the physical test earlier are on the verge of crossing the upper age limit," said Towseef Ahmed, an aspirant. "This is injustice as many of us are not physically as sound as we were four years ago. If they had to nullify the whole recruitment process, why did they deceive us all these years?"
The department has 2261 fireman and other employees – 260 among them, including many senior officials, are retiring by 2020. There has been no recruitment in the department from the last eight years.
As per an official, for 188 fire buses there should be 376 drivers. However, there are only 173 drivers currently working in the department.
Rajinder Kumar Hak, Director Fire & Emergency Services, while acknowledging the shortage of men in the department, said that they have been instructed by the court to revisit the whole recruitment process. "We will be recruiting the aspirants who have appeared in the earlier recruitment drive, however the whole process will be revisited as instructed by the court," said Hak.
