Senior CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami has called for regularization of youth engaged in various departments as daily wagers, consolidated workers, casual/seasonal, need based labourers, ITI trained and contingency paid workers who are meagerly paid and even not paid for months together.
In a statement here Tarigami said that the state cabinet has decided to prepare their biometrics but no concrete policy has been devised for their permanent absorption. The youth have been performing since long with utter satisfaction though being paid less below the minimum wages. Their grievances and demands have been left unheard that has left them in utter desperation and disillusionment.
"The government should consolidate the data regarding the youth engaged under the above categories and explore a mechanism to regularize them in a phased manner depending upon the length of their engagement. Most of these youth are skilled working on clear vacancies as such there is not much complexity in initiating for their absorption," Tarigami said in a statement.
While taking a strong exception to the successive government's lackadaisal approach towards the plight of these workers, Tarigami said that these workers have been turned into a hapless lot who are always put to tremendous hardships despite toiling hard in pressing circumstances.
