Relatives of murdered goldsmith stage protests in Sopore

Locals of Sopore including family and relatives of murdered goldsmith Tariq Ahmad Malik staged a protest demonstration at Iqbal market on Tuesday, demanding the victim’s body and stern action against the accused.

The accused allegedly involved in the murder of Tariq Ahmad Malik, 32, of Kalaroos Kupwara, have been arrested, but his body is yet to be handed over to his family. 

   

Protesters including women blocked the road outside SSP office Sopore at Iqbal market for several hours demanding exemplary punishment to the accused. They also shouted slogans against the failure of Sopore administration and police in tracing out his body from River Jhelum. 

According to police the accused forcibly took the victim from his shop on 26 of December last year during evening hours and strangulated him before throwing his body into River Jhelum.

The accused looted cash and jewellery from the shop of the victim after committing the murder.
