Residents clash with forces during search operation in south Kashmir’s Shopian

The residents of a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday clashed with the government forces after they launched a cordon-and-search-operation in the area.

Reports said that the government forces laid a siege around the Shirmal village early Saturday morning.

As the forces started door-to-door searches, scores of residents came out of their homes and pelted them with stones to disrupt the operation.

The forces, according to reports, fired tear gas to quell the protests.

The search operation comes close on the heels of yesterday’s abductions and killings of three policemen in the district.

A massive search operation is underway in nearly half a dozen villages of adjoining Pulwama district.

Reports said that the forces launched door-to-door searches in Lassipora, Armula, Alaipura, Batnur, Garbug, Naupora Payeen, Hajdarpora and Achan areas of Pulwama district.
