Senior PDP leader and former legislator Nizamuddin Bhat on Thursday urged the government to respect the religious sentiments of the people.
In a statement Bhat said restrictions on 10th Muharram hurt the sentiments of people.
"Ashura has a great significance for Muslims in particular and humanity in general. This occasion needs to be honoured unconditionally. It is unfortunate that obtaining security situation is used as an alibi to impose curbs and even cause sacrilege which hurts the feelings and harms the system," Bhat said.
