The education department has not released salary of Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers for the past four months.

"Teachers are going through tough times given the delay in release of our salary. This has subjected us to psychological torture," the regularized ReT teachers told Greater Kashmir.

The teachers in north Kashmir's Baramulla district are worst hit as the government has denied them salary from July while as in other districts the government has withhold the salaries of teachers since August and September.

He said the funds meant for salary were not released as per the requirement for district Baramulla by SPD, SSA which has worsened the situation on ground.

"Funds were not released proportionally with the number of ReT teachers in the district," the teachers said.

In other districts the regularized ReT teachers are without salary for the past three months causing inconvenience to them. "Teachers are forced to hit streets due to the wrong policies of government. Every year we are subjected to mental torture due to the delay in release of salaries," the teachers said.

State Project Director (SPD) SSA, Saugat Biswas said the salary of un-regularisedReT teachers was released up to the month of October. He however said the department has pendency of  salary for regularized ReT teachers recruited under SSA scheme.

"During previous month we tried our best to clear the previous pendency of Rs 600 crore and utilized the first installment of funds. Later we submitted Utilization certificate (UC) to GoI and made proposal for second installment as well," Biswas said.

He said the monthly salary bill amounts to Rs 110 crore per month and the present requirement for department was above Rs 900 crore to clear the pending salary of teachers.

"We are in touch with Government of India for release of funds under second installment. We are hopeful to receive money in a month and salaries of teachers will be released," he said.
