The Minister of Finance, labour and employment, and culture today said that revival of Kashmir's cultural nationalism can be treatment to many problems as this formidable force has shaped Kashmir's history for a long.
"Our art, culture and literature is so powerful that even Kashmir's Freedom Struggle started from a Reading Room in Srinagar," said Dr Haseeb Drabu. "It has a vast expanse and can provide solution to number of problems like growing intolerance and radicalization."
Dr Drabu was speaking to media after the inauguration of renovated Kitab Ghar at M A Road Srinagar. The famous and historical book shop was damaged during last year's devastating floods and has now been refurbished. "If people start reading the work of authors like Ahad Zargar and Nyam Sahib I assure you that they won't even think of harming others."
The minister termed the revival of Kashmiri Culture as the only solution to growing intolerance in the society. "Our culture is based on the culture of inclusivity and taking care of each others sensitivity. So infact this is the only solution to this problem," said Drabu
The minister lamented over the shrinking base of book readers in the society. "We have a treasure of literature, but the problem is that the habit of reading has been lost somewhere. We need to revive that culture and for that the places like Kitab Ghar will play a vital role," said Drabu while directing the officials to add café shop, cyber café and a reading room to the Kitab Ghar to make it more attractive.
Drabu said that the state possesses a vast collection of valuable work and need of the hour is to disseminate it to general masses. "We don't have any drought of literature as we have tens of thousands of valuable work from world class authors. Now our main focus should be to make available this entire work both in its original form and in different translations to people in state as well as other parts of the world," said Drabu while asking Academy of art and culture to explore various model of Private Public Partnership to start modern book shops in other districts of the state.
