Rising drug abuse, liquor consumption cause of concern: Moulana Hami

Karwan-e-Islami patron Alama Ghulam Rasool Hami has said that the rising drug abuse and liquor consumption among the young generation of Kashmir are emerging as a major challenge as shocking details are coming to fore.

Addressing a gathering at Jamia Masjid Darigam, Budgam near the revered shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Noorudin Noorani (RA), Alama Hami said, “What has set the alarm bells ringing that not only the youth belonging to the rich families, but students in schools and colleges across Kashmir have fallen prey to the growing drug and liquor abuse.”

He urged the responsible members of the civil society to rise to the occasion and to start counseling the youth in their respective localities to ensure Kashmir’s young generation is saved. He also urged the ulema and clerics to play their role in stopping the use of drugs and liquor among the youth in Kashmir and to deliver sermons on these issues on Fridays. Alama Hami said that Kashmir’s civil society and intellectuals should work hard to ensure complete ban on the sale of liquor and drugs given the fact that open sale of these items cannot be tolerated in Kashmir.
