Peoples Conference chairman and former minister Sajad Gani Lone on Thursday visited the fire victims whose shops were gutted recently in a mid-night fire in Handwara town.
Lone announced that his party would provide Rs 20,000 each to the fire victims. “Issue of compensation has been also taken up with the deputy commissioner Kupwara Khalid Jehangir and he has assured us that he would take up the matter with the Chief Secretary,” Lone told victims.
Meanwhile, additional deputy commissioner Handwara Gulzar Ahmad Bhat has announced Rs 7000 to each one of the fire victims as compensation from the state red cross.
Meanwhile, National Conference senior leader Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan and district president Kupwara and MLC Qaisar Jamsheed Lone have expressed sorrow at the fire incident. They have urged the incumbent administration to recompense the losses to affected traders at an earliest. Both the leaders have impressed upon the administration to initiate an inquiry to ascertain the causes of fire.
