The High Court on Wednesday sought status of funds released for re-construction of schools that were burnt down last year as well as progress of probe against culprits.

A division bench of Chief Justice Badder Durrez Ahmad and Ali Muhammad Magrey directed the government to file the latest status report on the submission of detailed project report (DPR) and funds sanctioned for the re-construction of the schools that went up in flames during the turmoil.

The court also directed the government to furnish details along with photographs of the arrangements that have been made for the students whose institutions were set on fire. The details, the court said, should include the schools that were damaged fully and partially.

In a separate direction, the court directed inspector general of police Kashmir to inform it about the status of investigation related to culprits against whom cases stand registered for burning of schools.

Around 35 schools were burned down when Kashmir was in the grips of unrest in 2016.

In November 2016, the High Court had stepped in to take suo moto cognizance of the burning of the schools and passed a slew of directions in this regard.
