School premises covered in snow, many miss classes

Premises of dozens of schools in remote villages of the Valley remain covered in snow, forcing children to stay home.

After three-month-long winter vacations, schools reopened onMonday, but snow has not been removed from many schools in remote areas.

   

The move has also exposed the authorities in educationdepartment who have left these schools unattended during winter. “Around fourto five feet snow has got accumulated in the school premises due to whichreaching schools has become tedious,” said a teacher posted in Rafiabad area ofdistrict Baramulla.

Besides Baramulla, the snow has got accumulated in variousschool premises in Budgam and south Kashmir districts as well.

In Khan Sahab area of Budgam district, teachers at thegovernment middle school Mujpathri, with the help of some laborers, have dugout a path through several-feet-deep snow for the students and the staff.

A teacher said on the condition of anonymity that the zonaland district education authorities concerned should have taken up the matterwith the mechanical engineering department to clear snow from school premises.
