Schools, colleges to remain closed today

All schools and colleges in Kashmir shall remain closed on Monday, government said.

The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to avoid law and order situation in the Valley in the wake of killing of civilians and militants during three encounters in Shopian on Sunday.

   

Pertinently, the Joint Resistance Leadership also called for a two-day shutdown in the Valley on Sunday and Monday.

“Keeping in view the prevailing situation, all schools and colleges will remain closed on Monday,” a spokesman of the education department said.

Meanwhile, authorities at the Kashmir University (KU), the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) and the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) have postponed all the examinations and interviews scheduled for Monday

A spokesman of the IUST Awantipora said the classwork at the varsity will also remain suspended on Monday. 

The Kashmir University has also decided to suspend classwork and postpone its exams slated for Monday.

“In view of concerns expressed by students, all the Kashmir University examinations scheduled to be held on April 2 (Monday) are postponed. Fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately,” a KU spokesperson said.

“As already notified, the classwork in the teaching departments shall remain suspended on April 2, 2018,” he said.

The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) has also postponed all the end-semester examinations scheduled for Monday. “According to the in-charge controller of examinations, the date for the postponed examination would be notified separately,” spokesman of the varsity said.
