Sehrai concerned over deteriorating health of pro-freedom detainees

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai has expressed concern over the deteriorating health and ‘illegal’ detention of pro-freedom leaders and activists.

Sehrai, in a statement said, ” Haji Bashir Ahmad Sofi of Baramulla has been languishing in jail since 2016 despite suffering from several ailments. He is a heart patient and he must be provided complete medical assistance and we demand his immediate release.”

Sehrai said, “Even after a passage of more than a year, investigating agency has failed to prove anything against incarcerated leaders languishing in Tihar jail. These leaders continue to face illegal confinement which is nothing more than a political vendetta.”

He said, “Detainees in Tihar jail are subjected to political vengeance. They have committed no offence other than to demand the basic birth right,” Sehrai said, expressing concern over the failure of international organisations to take any serious note of this ‘inhuman ill-treatment and lawlessness’ prevailing since decades now in Kashmir.”

Sehrai demanded immediate and unconditional release of Kashmiri leaders languishing at Tihar Jail. He appealed to the Amnesty International, Asia Watch and other international organizations for human rights to take cognizance of the plight of these detainees and use influence for their release.
