Semester system devastating for students: Prof Tariq Ashai

The Jammu and Kashmir College Teachers Association, President Prof Tariq Ashai has expressed serious concern over the unprecedented delay in the completion of the degrees at the undergraduate level.

In a statement, he said present semester system in degreecolleges of the Kashmir division is proving to be a biggest impediment incompletion of the degrees thus depriving the students of the opportunities topursue higher education.

   

He said the semester system in Kashmir division hascompletely failed due to the unfavourable climatic conditions and otherunavoidable circumstances as a result of which there is increase in the dropoutrate, lack of interest among the student community could have far reachingconsequences.Prof Ashai said CTA has raised this issue atumpteen times, on the basis of feedback from various stake holders andrecommended that present semester system be either replaced by the annualsystem or two semesters be clubbed  andexamination conducted in the month of November-December.
