SEMI RING ROAD PROJECT: Budgam land owners demand ‘adequate’ compensation

The land owners from the district held a protest here against the authorities on Thursday accusing them of starting semi ring road project without adequately compensating them.

The land owners from various areas of the district including Bachroo, Wathoora, Dooniwara, Gudsathoo accused National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) of starting the project without providing adequate compensation to them.

“We are not against making of the road. We are protesting against the concerned authorities who try to grab our lands by not compensating us,” said Ghulam Mohiudin Paul, a landowner flanked by scores of other landowners from Budgam.

He said recently they also held a meeting with state Governor NN Vohra, but nothing was done in this regard.

The semi ring road will come up from Galander Pampore to Narbal in Budgam. As per official records it will cover 4500 acres of land across 45 villages in the district, while 114 residential structures will also come under it.

The landowners appealed authorities to provide adequate compensation to their lands falling under the project.
