Authorities have placed several separatist leaders under house arrest to prevent them from participating in a protest organized by traders' bodies against 'failure' of the government to rehabilitate victims of last year's flood.

While Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest Monday morning, his political advisor Advocate Shahid Ul Islam was restricted to his home last night.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Yasin Malik was also placed under house arrest last night ahead of his participation in the protest march of traders.

Nayeem Khan, Chief of The National Front, was also placed under house arrest to prevent his particpation in the protest march, a spokesman said.

Traders' bodies have called for a shutdown in Kashmir today to protest against the failure of the Jammu and Kashmir government to provide relief to the 2014 flood victims.
