Several people are believed to be trapped in Galibal area of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after several hutments (kothas) came under a mound of snow on Thursday.
Officials believe that some people might be trapped in the snow.
They said the area is not accesible due to heavy snowfall and efforts were on to clear a parallel route Baramulla-Hajibal in order to reach the area.
“We have deployed five snow cutters on Hajibal route to access the affected village, Galibal. As of now there is no report of any casuality. However, if some huts have come under the snow then there is a possibility of casualities,” said Tariq Ahmad, AEE Mechanical division Baramulla.
“Rescue teams comprising SDRF personnel have been kept at standby besides assistance from the army will also be sought,” he added.
