Shab-e-Barat: 20 persons arrested for violating lockdown orders

Over 20 persons were arrested in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district after they violated the prohibitory orders, issued in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, by attempting to offer Shab-e-Barat prayers in congregation , officials said on Thursday.

A police official told Greater Kashmir, “A group of peopleattempted to offer congregational late night prayers in view of Shab-e-Barat ata local mosque in Nesbal village of Sumbal.

   

He said the arrests were made as the villagers violatedsection 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by gathering at a mosque despite theclear orders from the administration in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Station House Officer (SHO), Sumbal, Muneeb-ul-Islamconfirmed the arrest of over two dozen persons. He said a case under relevantsections of law has been registered and further investigation has been takenup.
