Shab-e-Barat prayers: Over 20 persons arrested for violating prohibitory orders in Bandipora

Over 20 persons were arrested in north Kashmir’s Bandiporadistrict after they violated the prohibitory orders issued in connection withthe spread of Covid-19 pandemic, officials said on Thursday.

A police official told Greater Kashmir that a group ofpeople attempted to offer congregational late night prayers in view ofShab-e-Barat at a local mosque in Nesbal village of Sumbal.

   

He said the arrests were made as the villagers violatedsection 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by gathering at a mosque despite theclear orders from the administration in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Station House Officer (SHO), Sumbal, Muneeb Ul Islamconfirmed the arrest of over two dozen persons. He said a case under relevantsections of law has been registered and further investigation taken up.
