Shamsipora army camp: DC ‘requests’ army to vacate ‘immediately’

The Deputy Magistrate Anantnag on Saturday “requested” the army to vacate the camp being installed at Sports Stadium Shamsipora in the south Kashmir district.

“To avoid the law and order problem, you are requested to vacate the camp immediately from the stadium land of Shamsipora,” he said, in an order, a copy of which lies with Greater Kashmir.

Pertinently, NC legislator from Home-Shalibugh constituency Abdul Majeed Larmi had staged protests inside the legislative assembly over the setting up of the camp.

His statement came in view of protests staged by the residents of Shamsipora against the setting up of the camp.

In the order, the District Magistrate said that “the general public of the area is vehemently opposed to installation of the camp at Shamsipora stadium on the plea that the stadium is surrounded by the villages who will face various kinds of inconveniences.”

He said that there was “every apprehension” of law and order problem in the area.
