Shopian gunfight: One of the slain militants identified

One of the two militants killed in a gunfight with the government forces has been identified as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh of Rawalpora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A police official said two militants were killed in the gunfight that also left two soldiers injured.

   

He identified one of them as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Muhammad Sheikh, resident of Ayand village of Rawalpora Shopian.

He said the identity of the other slain, believed to be a non-local, was being ascertained.

The gunfight that raged for several hours in Kundalan village broke out today morning after forces cordoned off the area.

At least twenty protesters were injured in the clashes that broke out soon after the gunfight.
