Complete shutdown was observed in Pampore area of south Kashmir on Monday against the killing of a militant in an encounter with forces the previous day.
Reports said that business establishments remained closed in the town amid heavy security deployment of security personnel in the town.
Forces were deployed in strength on Srinagar-Jammu highway and lanes and alleys of the town to thwart any protests. The areas which observed shutdown include Nablabal, Drangbal, Frestbal, Ladhoo, Khrew and Shar Shali areas of Pampore.
The day passed off peacefully without any incident of stone pelting or protests in the area, a police official said.
Public transport also remained off the roads; however private transport was plying in the area.
The shops remained closed since Sunday evening when the reports about the killing of a Lashkar Toiba militant spread in the area.
Meanwhile forces have so far failed to locate the two militants who managed to give a slip to the forces at the encounter site. Forces had yesterday launched a manhunt to trace out two militants in the forests of Ladhoo.
