A complete shutdown was observed in Baramulla town and its adjoining areas on the second consecutive day on Friday against the killing of three Lashkar militants at Binner village in Baramulla district on Wednesday.
In Binner village of the district, where the militants were killed, local residents held a demonstration after Friday prayers, shouting pro-freedom and pro-militant slogans.
The deceased Lashkar militants—Suhaib Farooq Akhoon, Mohsin Mushtaq and Nasir Ahmad Darzi—hailed from Baramulla town and had been active since 2017. They were the only surviving militants in Baramulla town, police claimed.
The killing of the militants evoked widespread protests in Baramulla town on Thursday. They were laid to rest in the local martyrs' graveyard at old town Baramulla and Khanpora.
Suhaib is the third militant from Khanpora killed since 2017. Javed Ahmad Dar and Akeel Ahmad Sofi, the other two militants from the area, were killed in two encounters at Amargarh Sopore and Athoora Kreeri in 2017 and 2018.
