Four policemen and two prisoners were injured after inmates at a jail in north Kashmir's Baramulla district attacked jail staff, police said today.
"Today around noon, Assistant superintendent of District Jail Baramulla informed that some jail inmates crated serious problems inside the jail premises on some administrate issue and have attacked the Jail staff," said a police spokesman.
The jail property, including surveillance cameras, was damaged by the prisoners, he added.
"On this a police party was deputed to the jail premises, which was also attacked by the jail inmates with stones, bricks and lathes. Some of the Jail inmates also damaged the wall of the district Jail by removing the bricks for pelting on the police party. They also set on fire the main gate of the Jail which was extinguished with the help of fire services," said the spokesman.
He said that four policemen and two prisoners were injured.
"A case FIR number 347/2016 under different penal sections of RPC has been registered in this regard in police station Baramulla and matter is being investigated," he said.
