The video, which was posted under the account name ‘Iliyas Mir Magami’ on a social media platform, was reportedly edited to spread misleading information and create disharmony among communities.

“A case has been registered and investigations have been taken up,” a senior Police official said.

He said that they were trying to ascertain whether the intention behind the act was to create unrest among different sections of society.

The video allegedly contained fake footage of the Home Minister, and its dissemination led to the registration of FIR No 47/2024 at Police Station Magam under Sections 505(2) and 171 G of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The FIR was registered purportedly on the complaint by BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur who had requested the immediate arrest of the accused to prevent any potential resentment or protest by the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities in J&K.

Thakur wrote to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rajbagh, Srinagar, urging swift action against the individual responsible for uploading the video.

Thakur emphasised that the video falsely claimed that the Centre was planning to remove the reservation for SC and ST in J&K, which he described as baseless and far from the truth.

The copies of the complaint application were also sent to the IGP Kashmir Zone, DIG Central Kashmir Zone, SSP Budgam, and SSP Cyber for necessary action.
