Soldier wounded in ongoing Shopian gunfight

An army soldier was injured in an ongoing encounter in Kanigam Village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A senior Police officer told news agency GNS that an army man was injured when militants tried to escape from the area by firing a volley of bullets on the soldiers who had cordoned off the area.

However, the militants couldn’t escape as the security forces again engaged them, the officer added.

The gunfight broke out earlier today after a joint team of police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Kanigam.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering a gunfight.
