The 10 kilometre Gagangeer -Sonamarag road re-opened for light vehicles on Tuesday after remaining closed for nearly four months due to snowfall.
SDM Kangan Mehraj ud din Shah told Greater Kashmir that the road up to Sonamarag has been thrown open for light motor vehicles.
“The traffic movement on the Gagangeer-Sonamrag stretch is allowed from 11AM to 3PM only till further orders and no vehicle would be allowed to move further from Sonamarag ,” he said.
The highway connecting the Ladakh region with Kashmir valley, used to remain closed from December to April every year due to accumulation of snow, cold and slides in the Zojila area.
