A day after 13 shops and five hotels were gutted in fire incident at Sonamarg, the traders and hoteliers on Thursday staged a silent protests against the non-availability of fire tenders at the famous health resort.
The traders under the banner of Beopar Mandala assembled at the main market and staged a silent protest to press for their demand to keep the fire tenders available at Sonamarg round the clock.
" Had government kept the fire tenders available at Sonamarg major loss could have been," they said.
Protesters demanded compensation for victim traders and reconstruction of the shops destroyed in the fire incident.
Meanwhile, MLA Kangan and senior National Conference leader Mian Altaf expressed sorrow over the fire incident and demanded immediate compensation to the fire victims whose shops were gutted in the inferno .
In a statement Mian Altaf urged the administration to ensure immediate and proper compensation to the victims so that they can re-start their business forthwith.
Mian Altaf also urged that being a health resort a fire and emergency service station should be established in Sonamarg on priority keeping in view its importance and geography.
