The road to famous tourist resort of Sonamarg in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district has been closed much to the chagrin of visitors who wanted to enjoy the first snowfall of the season.
Sonamarg and its adjoining areas have been receiving the season's fresh snowfall since Wednesday.
However the road leading to this famous health resort has been closed due to slippery road conditions and chances of slides along the route.
Reports said that about 3ft snow has accumulated at the health resort.
Hundreds of tourists including children were seen enjoying the snowfall at Gagangeer, a village located few kilometers ahead of Sonamarg.
"We are really enjoying the snowfall, we fell lucky that we witnessed it this time, adding that at the same time we feel unfortunate by not being able to visit Sonamarg," said a group of tourists from West Bengal.
Station House Officer (SHO) police station Sonamarg Nissar Ahmed said that the road was closed as a precautionary measure in view of the slippery road conditions and chances of skidding.
"We have temporarily suspended the traffic movement, adding that if weather and road conditions permitted the vehicles will be allowed towards Sonamarg, he said.
