Sopore areas hit by water shortage

Residents of several areas of this town in north Kashmir are up in arms against the PHE department for failing to provide adequate water supply to them.

Residents of Chankhan, Krankshivan Colony, Naseem Bagh, SofiHamam, Khushal Colony, Khankha Mohalla, Noor Bagh, Batpora, and Ashpeer areascomplained that they were facing acute shortage of drinking water for the pastseveral days.

   

Theyblamed the PHE authorities for not addressing their problems despite repeatedpleas.

“We are being forced to use contaminated water from nallahs”, said Javid Ahmad Teli of Chankhan village. He said a delegation of thevillagers approached authorities several times with the issue, but to no avail.

They appealed the higherauthorities and district administration to look into the matter.

An official in the PHE department acknowledged that regularwater supply was hit in some localities owing to damage to some supply lines.

“We are at the job to restore the lines. The water supplywill be restored soon,” he said.
