Sopore areas waterlogged after fresh snowfall, residents suffer

Most areas in Sopore town of Baramulla district and its adjoining areas are waterlogged after the fresh snowfall on Wednesday and Thursday, adding to the problems of the residents already reeling under a harsh winter.

In Sopore main town, Iqbal market, general bus stand, main chowk, Sidiq colony, Moominabad, model town, Arampora, Hyder colony, Sher colony areas are worst hit due to the water logging that affects the public movement.

   

“We have to choose other paths to move towards the markets in Sopore town. The entire area is suffering as the authorities have not bothered to visit here,” said Altaf Hussain, a local resident.

In areas like Dooru, Dangarpora, Janwara, Nowpora, Tarzoo, Tulibal and Krankshivan; people were seen walking in waterlogged lanes as authorities have failed to de-water the roads. 

In Rafiabad, roads give the look of ponds due to the melting of snow. 

People alleged that such situation has arisen because of the inaction and negligence of the government authorities. 

People of the area have appealed the governor and officials of concerned departments to put the men and machinery into service to dewater the areas.
