Sopore residents protest against erratic electricity supply, water scarcity

The residents of Warpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday staged a protest demonstration against Power Development Department and Public Health Engineering department against erratic electricity supply and water crisis in the area.

Witnesses said that scores of residents hit streets to protest, blaming the administration for failing to address their grievances. While shouting slogans against the district administration for failing to provide basic facilities to the inhabitants, the protesters blocked the Sopore-Bandipora road for several hours.

“We are struggling with continuous power and water supply issues in this chilling winter,” they said and added that despite repeated pleas with the concerned officials, the issues were not addressed.

A team of police reached the spot and assured the protestors that their matters will be taken up with the higher authorities of PDD and PHE. Officials from PDD later reached the spot and assured them redress of their grievance.
