Sopore shuts to mourn militant killings

A complete shutdown is being observed in Sopore town and its adjacent areas in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday against the militant killings.

All shops and other business establishments are closed while public transport is off the roads.

Two militants – Riyaz Ahmad Dar of Naseerabad Sopore and Khursheed Ahmad Malik of Aarihal Pulwama – were killed in a fierce gunfight with the forces yesterday. An army soldier was also killed in the gunfight.

Reports said that forces have been deployed in strength at many places in the town, including Main chowk, tehsil road, Arampora and Chanakhan to prevent any protests.
