Sopore, Zaingeer residents decry poor power supply

Inhabitants of Sopore town and Zaingeer belt in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Tuesday complained that the areas were facing worst power cuts for the past one month.

People from Zaingeer belt comprising about 30 villages, Sopore town and Watlab, Warpora, Dangarpora, Bomai, Seelo, Syedpora and other areas, said the poor power supply has hit the education of their children.

The residents accused the PDD of not adhering to the curtailment schedule. “We are not getting even 3-4 hours supply in 24 hours. The governor administration has failed to provide the basic facilities to the people,” the aggrieved residents said.

‘Muhammad Ashraf, a local said: “The PDD is ignoring our sufferings and every year during winters we facing this situation.”

A PDD official blamed the “overloading” in the areas for frequent power cuts. He said the people “use heaters and other heating gadgets which overloads the system.”
