Senior Congress leader and former union minister Prof Saifiuddin Soz on Saturday welcomed the release of senior Hurriyat leaders, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
In a statement here Soz said, " Govt of India's special representative Dineshwar Sharma has characterized the release of senior Hurriyat leaders as first of the CBMs that are under process."
he said, " Sharma has appealed the Hurriyat to be peaceful and non-violent, although Hurriyat has been known for just one weapon to show the reaction to violent incidents involving killings and that is a shutdown."
Soz said, "I hope Hurriyat Govt of India utilizes this opportunity for initiating a process for a meaningful dialogue with the Hurriyat, at its earliest."
The Congress leader said that Hurriyat needs to be allowed to raise a dialogue and discussion with the people of the state through a process of public contact.
Soz demanded that authorities should also look into the complaint of the senior Hurriyat leader Ashraf Sahrai that the incarceration of his son led him to take the gun and join Hizbul Mujahideen.
